Hi! I'm new to this site. I do belong to other connect sites for various other health issues. But recently I was diagnosed w/ Osteoporosis. Can anyone tell me how long it takes to rebuild the calcium in your bones? I just started taking Actonel. This is 1 ? I didn't think to ask at my last Rheu appt & I don't go back for 7 more weeks. I know it won't happen overnight & that I'll probably take longer than most people as I'm still being weaned off prednisone for RA. I could call the Rheu or wait til I go for my next appt, but I figured I'd ask here ifor now.

I can't remember how long it took my Mom but her situation was very different from mine. She had it due to menopause. She developed RA 8 yrs later. Because of the heredity factor I started taking calcium in college. But due to taking prednisone for many years for the RA & sometimes high doses for asthma I still devoloped Osteoporosis.

I actually was taking Actonel for a # of yrs but had emergency hernia surgery in 2009 where they also found ulcers during the surgery so they took me off it at that point.

I know there is no definitive answer & we're all different in the healing process. I'm just looking for an approximation. I already have a fracture inside my pelvis which is most likely due to the osteoporosis since I didn't fall & wasn't in an accident of any kind.

Thanks for any responses &/or advice you can give me.
